Über diesen Titel

In his travels through Israel and Gaza, #1 International Bestselling author Douglas Murray has seen the best and the worst humanity has to offer, and he has no trouble choosing a side.

Murray is not Jewish and before October 7, he had never lived in Israel. However, he objects to being lied to, and Israel has been on the receiving end of the biggest, deepest, longest lies in history.

Israel's commitment to fundamental Western values—capitalism, individual rights, democracy, and reason—has made it a beacon of progress in a region dominated by authoritarianism and extremism. Israel’s principles vividly contrast with the ideology of Hamas, which openly proclaims its love of death over life. With incisive moral clarity, On Democracies and Death Cults exposes how the campus left and international establishment confuse this conflict by:

  • Calling on Israel for restraint and proportionality, while Hamas commits genocide.
  • Slandering Israelis as white colonialists, while only a third of Israelis are Jews of European ancestry.
  • Framing the conflict as oppressor vs. oppressed, when it is really between a thriving multi-ethnic democracy and a death cult bent on its annihilation.

Drawing from intensive on-the-ground reporting in Israel, Gaza, and Lebanon, Douglas Murray places the latest violence in its proper historical context. He takes listeners on a harrowing journey through the aftermath of the October 7 massacre, piecing together the exclusive accounts from victims, survivors, and even the terrorists responsible for the atrocities. If left unchecked, misplaced sympathy could embolden forces that seek to undermine not only Israel, but all of Western civilization.

Clarity and the will to speak truth in a world of antisemitism and lies

Douglas Murray is the only non-Jewish and non-Israeli author with a reach relevant enough to shake up the minds of many in a world of antisemitism and lies. A must-read for anybody who wishes to truly understand the "Palestinian problem" and how to best deal with it. Israel - like any liberal democracy - is not a perfect country and Douglas Murray does not pretend she were. But Israel is worth understanding and travelling to, and - most importantly maybe - Israel deserves to be treated equally under international law. Israel stands out as the beacon of hope. The Western Civilisation truly is based on the love of life!

A Masterful, Eye-Opening Book

Douglas Murray’s On Democracies and Death Cults is nothing short of a tour de force. Narrated by the author himself, this audiobook is a gripping, clear-eyed exploration of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its profound implications for the future of Western civilization. Murray’s incisive prose and meticulous reporting place listeners right at the heart of the October 7th massacre and its aftermath, delivering a narrative that is both harrowing and profoundly enlightening.

What sets this audiobook apart is Murray’s ability to distill complex geopolitical and cultural issues with razor-sharp clarity. His writing is compelling, concise, and backed by comprehensive citations, making it accessible yet deeply thought-provoking. The audiobook’s production is flawless, with Murray’s passionate delivery—complete with perfectly timed pauses and emphatic tones—bringing an unparalleled intimacy to the experience. As one listener noted, hearing Murray read his own work feels like a privilege, emphasizing the gravity of his arguments with every word.

This book is a must-listen!

One of the most important books of our time

What an amazing book. It offers everything one needs to know about the situation between Israel and its neighbours. This being one of the many conflicts in the world where understanding what is actually happening seems nigh impossible without tons of research, Murray delivers it all. From the facts to the human sides, it's all there.

The book's importance should obvious to everyone living in the western world, with open eyes that is.
More and more percent of the populations support the death cult and far too few in the west are willing to see beyond the emotional reporting.
In Israels struggle for bare survival it is layed open what a radical ideology is capable of and how lazily the west accepts the narratives offered by the people who despise democracy and western values.

Thank you Douglas Murray for making this great contribution. So many more people may get the chance to form an informed opinion.

Well researched, written and superbly spoken.

Brilliant. Raw. Honest.

Raw review of the Israeli experience since 7 October and brutal mirror on the Wests response. Must read for those feeling morally confused or at least are open to another point of view.

The horrific truth, brilliantly told.

Douglas provides a profound insight into the events surrounding October 7.
He was in Israel and Gaza and shares the horrific findings—sometimes so painful that I didn’t want to keep listening. But it’s precisely for that reason that the book is so valuable.
It reveals the atrocities and the utter senselessness suffered by Israeli civilians, and the unfathomable evil of Hamas.
It also shows how distorted the global public perception of the issue still is.
Toward the end, however, the listener also experiences the inner strength, determination, and hope that prevail in Israeli society despite everything.
A truly important book about real-life monsters, but also heroes of our time—full of pain, yet not without hope.

Very moving. And truthful, too.

I have not gained so much insight from a book as from this book in my life. I am 73. It is surprisingly and very strangely comforting, too.

A very important book, a difficult read

Amazingly and admirably written, Douglas Murray’s latest book recounts the inhumanity surrounding the barbaric horrors perpetrated in Israel on October 7th, 2023. With his typical journalistic aplomb, Murray gives first-hand and eyewitness accounts of the related circumstances. On the one hand, the book is heart wrenching to read: it deeply wounds the soul to hear retold sordid details and gruesome descriptions about what humans can perpetrate on one another. Most readers will likely get choked up or even sob while reading. It must have been excruciating for Murray to write, but one senses that he felt a responsibility to deliver truths based on events he researched scrupulously or witnessed himself. Personally, the author ends on a positive note. With its well-sourced facts and characterizations, this book is an important contribution to our civilization in that it helps to explain the inexplicable.
