Stephen fry is absolutely amazing

he has very distinctive voices, a clear pronunciation and even though the book is funny anyway, I don't think I ever grinned as much when reading it on my own

Dark, fast-paced & fun - made even better by Fry

On a re-listening spree of the HP series, I have finally, after years, caved in and gotten these titles on Audible for easier and more comfortable listening than having to deal with CDs or copying stuff over from one medium to another.

The fourth book is decidedly darker and seems to go at a faster pace than the previous books, despite being noticeably longer. There is a lot happening here, and a lot of foreshadowing that is only really noticed to its full extent when the story is already ingrained in ones mind to begin with.

It has been a while since I last listened to this book, and I was surprised to realize how much I had forgotten or taken as canon from the movies, even though I should have known better (Spoiler and example: Dobby being the one to provide the Gillyweed, I still remembered. But that Harry technically didn't find out about said Gillyweed until twenty minutes before the match and that Dobby just stuffed it into his hands and sent him off, I had forgotten about. Bless that elf, and bless HP for always being fun to revisit.)

The tournament, which had in my youth fascinated me endlessly and had me pondering how I would do if faced with such terrible challenges, now ended up way more amusing in my older years. Who would let their kids participate in such a dangerous thing? Why hadn't they just sat Harry down next to the match and had him 'give up' 3 seconds into each challenge to protect him and thwart any dubious plan of having him get maimed, rather than letting this 14 year old dork fight for his life every time just because?
And moreover: How bored was the rest of the castle when staring at a lake for over an hour, and then again at overgrown hedges?
I think it might have made more sense if there had been a magical screen that had shown the bottom of the lake and the way the champions dealt with their challenges, for all to see. It also would have been interesting and more difficult for....the bad guy...to interfere and sabotage things during the last task.
but alas.

I am delighted that the trio got along much better in this book than the last - which is ironic considering the beef Harry and Ron habe for what feels like ages. But other than that, they talk, they joke, they laugh, they learn, and are always there for one another, which I felt was missing a bit in PoA.

Stephen Fry, as always, does a remarkable job of bringing the story to life and building up the anticipation and drama. His voices and impressions are on spot, and his voice is a delight that I could (and do) listen to for hours and hours without tiring.


Definitely looking forward to the next part, which happens to have been my favorite for years and years. Let's see whether it still is!

Unglaublich. Aber was soll man sagen? Es ist Harry Potter. Es ist und wir auch immer genial bleiben!
Und Steven Fry ist wirklich ein toller Sprecher. alle Stimmen klingen unglaublich echt. Respekt!

Must-have

Harry Potter spoken by Stephen Fry is a must-have, he has an amazing talent for voices and emotions. There are only few that can uphold the number of different voices spoken throughout so many books and he masteres this art perfectly. Even without being told who speaks, you know it immediately. Also the girls voices, which are quite hard to speak for a male, are distinguishable from each other.
He is easy to understand and keeps an even pace.

I have probably read the books about five times, But the audio book with Stephen Fry's voice is a must have for all Harry Potter fans.
